Heart Signature Program

The OSUMC Heart Program focuses on three main service lines: Cardiovascular Medicine, Cardiac Surgery and Vascular Surgery. Research is focused on heart failure, ischemic disease, transplantation, arrhythmias/electrophysiology and vascular medicine. Program leaders are William Abraham, MD and Larry Anstine

Databases

MEDLINE : Available through PubMed, OVID, and OhioLINK. All support access to electronic journals, e-mail alerts and downloading to reference management software.

Science Citation Index : Provides subject and author searching; tracking of references cited in journal articles. Citation alert feature sends e-mail notices of future citations to a specific article. Supports access to electronic journals.

Evidence Based Medicine Reviews : Includes the ACP Journal Club, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Clinical Trials, the Database of Systematic Review, and the Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effectiveness. Full text.

Micromedex : A collection of databases offering comprehensive information on drugs, alternative medicine therapies, toxicology, and patient care

BIOSIS : Covers the worldwide biological literature; particularly useful for conference proceedings.Links to OSU and OhioLINK electronic journals

Managing Heart Services Resources

These Pubmed searches are a sampling of journal literature on several heart program management topics

Economics: Economic aspects of any subject, as well as for all aspects of financial management. It includes the raising or providing of funds.

Personalized medicine: The ability to offer the appropriate treatment to the right person, only when needed.

Practice Guidelines: Directions or principles to assist the health care practitioner with patient care decisions about appropriate diagnostic, therapeutic, or other clinical procedures for specific clinical circumstances.

Standards: Facilities, personnel, and program headings for the development, testing, and application of standards of adequacy or acceptable performance and with chemicals and drugs for standards of identification, quality, and potency.

Trends: Qualitative or quantitative changes over time, whether past, present, or future.

Utilization: Equipment, facilities, programs, services, and health personnel for discussions, usually with data, of how much they are used. Discussions of overuse and underuse.
